Vets save cobra which had been stuck inside can

A highly venomous snake has been rescued after getting its head stuck in a beer can for four days.

Vets in Odisha, in India’s east, found the cobra with its head trapped in a can of Budweiser after it slithered into an abandoned water tank.

British news agency South West News Service reports the terrified snake had almost cut its own throat in the can.

In video, rescuers scoop the serpent out of the empty water tank with a rod.

One of the men takes the snake away and cuts the beer can off before performing a two-hour operation to stitch up its wounds.

Orissa University of Agriculture’s Professor Biwajit Jena, who was part of the rescue, said the cobra will be “completely fine” in about a month.

“If need be the snake may undergo another surgery but it is out of danger now,” he said.
