WATCH: Witness captures chaos from allegedly stolen truck's trail of destruction

A witness has captured the chaotic scenes after an allegedly stolen truck ploughed into a Hunter Valley hotel, leaving at least one man with critical injuries.

Flames and smoke billowed from the carnage after the semi-trailer slammed into a number of cars before coming to rest at Singleton’s Royal Hotel on Wednesday morning.

The truck was reportedly stolen from a BP service station at Murrurundi in the NSW Hunter Valley while the owner was paying for fuel.

A police officer deployed road spikes in an attempt to stop the "erratically" driven truck as it made its way into the heart of Singleton.

"The driver of the alleged stolen truck was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with inquiries."

The driver has been arrested and a critical incident investigation has been launched.
