Simple device to help improve posture and reduce back pain

A simple device could offer much needed relief to millions of Australians suffering from back pains.

The small gadget has been developed to help stamp out slouching by monitoring your posture and reminding you to sit up properly.

With at least one third of our day spent in front of a screen, posture problems are at an all-time high, not just in adults but kids too.

One in six Australians now suffer from some form of back pain each year.

"Modern society has turned us into a bunch of slouches,” Upright Australia’s Todd Lynton told 7 News.

The smart wearable device, which costs about $150, sticks to your upper back and senses subtle movements.

When you slouch it vibrates "training your mind to ensure you sit up straight", Mr Lynton said.

Over time poor posture can put extra stress on your spine, leading to the breakdown of spinal discs and joint instability.

Having correct posture can lessen back pain, improves wellbeing and even decrease stress and fatigue

Brisbane physiotherapist Sam Foster said it’s crucial to counteract the time stuck behind your desk.

"Changing your posture so not getting stuck sitting for too long if you can,” he told 7 News.

He said it’s crucial to set up reminders on your phone and moving throughout the day.
