Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hits off Japan's east coast
An earthquake measuring magnitude 6.3 has been recorded off eastern Japan, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake struck 300km east of Iwaki, on Japan's main island Honshu, at a depth of 77.8 km, USGS said.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The quake struck 320kms away from the Fukushima nuclear power plant still reeling from a meltdown in 2011, caused by a quake and subsequent tsunami.
In late September a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Japan, again 320kms from the same power plant.
The earthquake follows several recent activity around the Pacific Rim's "Ring of Fire" that brought serious quakes to Mexico, Vanuatu, and New Zealand.
