'Adrenaline rush': Gold Coast fisherman describes how two-metre marlin fought back

Incredible footage has surfaced of the moment a massive marlin narrowly missed spearing a Gold Coast fisherman in the head with its bill.

A crew was trying to tag the 55kg fish when it breached way too close for comfort.

Skipper Dave Walker managed to reel in the massive marlin off the Gold Coast before the job got even harder.

"It's all nice and good... all nice and good... hang in there," he can be heard saying in the footage.

The crew was tasked with getting the almost two-metre long beast close enough to tag.

That's when Damian Jackson lent a hand, suggesting his mate should "Wrap it around ya hands."

As the fight continued, the rudder frayed the fishing line.

The monster marlin then breached once the line snapped, before the fish flew straight for the man's face, its huge bill coming within millimetres of Mr Jackson's head.

After a half hour struggle, Mr Jackson can be heard in the video screaming: "We got him! There he is, look at him!"

Talking to Seven News on Tuesday, Mr Jackson described it as the "biggest fish I've ever seen".

"I had nowhere to go but down, and I put my arm up just to protect my face. The fish has gone and brushed my arm."

He's glad the moment was caught on camera, fearing his tale might have otherwise sounded a bit fishy.

"We were just hoping we wouldn't have to tell another fishing story without having evidence," he said.

This time Mr Jackson was the one that got away.

"It was an adrenalin rush. It was awesome. Best day so far I've ever had fishing."
