Scotland aims to phase out new petrol, diesel cars by 2032

EDINBURGH (Reuters) - Scotland plans to phase out new petrol and diesel cars by 2032, eight years earlier than under proposals set out by the London government, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Tuesday.

In July, Britain said it would ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2040 to cut pollution, replicating plans by France and cities such as Madrid, Mexico City and Athens.
"Our aim is for new petrol and diesel cars and vans to be phased out in Scotland by 2032," Sturgeon said on Tuesday.
Scotland accounts for less than 10 percent of the British car market.
