WATCH: Elderly lady leaves car, thanks P-plater for 'not driving like a bloody hoon'

A young Tasmanian driver was surprised when an elderly lady got out of her car at a busy intersection in Tasmania to thank him for "not driving like a bloody hoon".

The P-plate driver, Josh, uploaded the surprising footage to Dash Cam Owners Australia's Facebook page after the encounter.

The lady stops her Toyota Corolla at the entrance to a freeway, steps out and starts walking towards Josh's car.

"I see you're on P-plates and you're not driving like a bloody hoon," she says.

"Good on you, because there are so many morons either drunk or on drugs or off their face."

Facebook users congratulated Josh for the good rap, but questioned the "safety" of a driver stopping her car in the middle of traffic at a busy intersection.

"Wow, let's commend the young man on his driving, while parking in the middle of the road and blocking traffic... Genius! Do you think she sees the irony here?", one person wrote.

Another Facebooker was more appreciative, writing: "Naaaaawwwww, little old ladies are the best. Love it, who else is gonna have the balls to block a road and be like "nah, they can all wait while i tell this young man he's a good boy"?"
