Son caught repeatedly 'slapping' dementia patient father in hospital bed

Shocking footage has surfaced of a cruel man appearing to slap his elderly father in a Chinese hospital, who was suffering dementia.

The video, which circulated Sunday on Chinese microblogging site Weibo shows the son appearing to repeatedly hit his 86-year-old father as he lay in a hospital bed.

The man appear to also kick the Shanghai patient, identified as Mr Wang, in the leg and strapped him to his bed, according to witnesses who shared the video.

Onlookers added that Mr Wang's hand fracture was also as a result to his son's beatings, which they say have become a daily occurrence.

In the video, part of a four minute recording, the son can be heard asking his father "Why did you cause trouble?" as the elderly man cries for help.

The anonymous witness who recorded the clip said the son became angry after he found his mentally ill father had thrown food on the floor.

He added that the son threatened to give his father a proper beating at home when he was discharged from hospital.

The viral video led police to detain the son for questioning, local press reported.
