A teenage boy has been arrested in Saudi Arabia for dancing to the Macarena.

The video of the 14-year-old dancing at a crossing in Jeddah went viral on Twitter with more than 1900 re-tweets.

But authorities arrested the boy and are questioning him over the video, which disrupted traffic, according to Mecca police.

Police said he showed “improper behaviour”, but it’s not clear whether he will be formally charged.

His arrest follows a Saudi singer being detained for using the “dab” dance move on stage at a music festival.

Abdallah al-Shahani also appeared in a viral video at a festival in the country’s southwestern city of Taif.

“Dabbing” has been outlawed in Saudi Arabia by the National Committee for Drug Control, on the grounds it encourages drug use, according to Saudi media.
