Woman dies after 'laughing hard' and falling off balcony

A woman has died after she lost her balance and fell off a balcony in Mexico because she was "laughing very hard".

Sharon Ciferno, 50, from Pennsylvania, was on holiday and sitting on a rooftop deck when she fell, according to PennLive.

Her brother, David Regoli, posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook.

"Rest In Peace my amazing beautiful little sister," he wrote.

"My family is devastated and heart broken. Please keep us all in your prayers. She died very peacefully with her husband John and her children as well as my parents and me holding her hands and praying over her.

"Through her generous gift of life, at least 5 people will have the opportunity to live on with some of her organs."

David told PennLive that she was laughing before the accident.

“She started laughing very hard and when she put her head back she lost her balance and fell back,” David said.

“She suffered multiple injuries to her body and brain.”

It's understood the balcony ledge Sharon was sitting on did not have a balustrade.

She was transported back to the US to the University of California San Diego Medical Center, where she underwent multiple procedures.

“Her injuries proved to be more than she could handle and the family made the most difficult decision that we could make and we let her go,” David said.
