'Take care of our kids': Chiropractor and wife take their own lives due to spiralling debt problems

The US chiropractor and his wife who committed suicide because of their financial struggles have been identified.

Glenn Scarpelli and his wife Patricia, aged 53 and 50, were found dead in New York city on Friday morning and leave behind two children, Isabella, 20, and Joseph, 19.

The couple left behind suicide notes saying they had a "wonderful life," but referenced their "financial spiral" becoming too much.

Mr Scarpelli reportedly had a history of financial struggles, including being pursued in federal court for failing to pay back a loan taken out in 2000, according to the Daily Mail.

The chiropractor owed $213,000 to the federal government and just under $42,000 to the state in unpaid taxes.

Police initially thought the couple battled with paying for healthcare, but said there was no mention of this in the suicide notes.
