Family discovers SUV wrapped in tarp, buried in yard for 15 years

An Oklahoma family have managed to provide evidence for a crime that's almost 15 years old with the discovery of an SUV, found buried in their own backyard.

The 2003 Chevy Trailblazer was found covered in a tarp in the middle of a dirt bike trail at the property.

The Green family say they had no idea the car was there, jumping off it with their bikes for years.

"We jumped off this car for several years with our ATV and motocross bikes, without ever knowing it," property owner Fredie Green told American TV network KFOR.

The discovery was made by Green's son, Cody, who was adjusting the jump with a tractor when he uncovered the car.

"Went down a little deep and the tractor just stopped," Cody said.

"I went, 'man, what is this?' Well I end up digging some more and got to the hood of it."

Green said he told his son to leave it alone right then and there out of fear there could be dead bodies inside.

He called the authorities who tore the doors off to check for bodies but didn't find any.

Police were able to use the licence plate to identify the car after whoever stole it left it in tact.

"He [the owner of the car had reported it stolen in 2003," Lt. Robert Stewart said.

"He at one time owned that property that vehicle was located on."

No one has been charged yet, but deputies suspect it could be insurance fraud.
