Accused drug mule Cassandra Sainsbury's sister says she should 'shut her mouth'

While the pair haven't spoken for more than a month, accused drug mule Cassandra Sainsbury's sister has said her one piece of advice for the Adelaide woman would be "to keep your mouth shut".

Khala hasn't spoken to her sister after the pair had a falling out.

Speaking with 7 News, Khala said she would tell her sister "to keep your mouth shut".

Khala says Cassie's story has changed too many times and believes her tumultuous court appearance on Thursday could cost her dearly.

"There's been too many stories and hopefully the truth will come out eventually," she said.

Cassie, 22, was hoping to find out exactly how long she'd be locked up on Thursday but despite an appearance in court her punishment remains up in the air.

The Colombian judge refused to accept a plea deal for the accused drug mule.

It is understood Sainsbury agreed in a plea deal that she would admit to carrying the drug but would be offered a lenient sentence in exchange for information on who supplied her the drugs.

But what Sainsbury was admitting to quickly came under question in the court with particular focus on whether there was "intention" to carry the drugs.

The prosecution put it to the court that Sainsbury carried the drugs with intention as she was under threat.

The judged asked her (through a translator): "Were you under threat to take the drugs with you?"

"Yes," Sainsbury answered.

Sainsbury said she was told that her family and partner would be killed if she didn't comply, but couldn't identify the person who had made the threat.

The change in story raised red flags and subesquently delaying the sentencing.

Khala said she doesn't "blame" the judge for questioning the plea deal.

"You can't go into it saying you had nothing to do with it and then say yeah I did it," she said.

Sainsbury is due back in court next month.
