Dad's reaction to newborn's strange cry saves daughter's life

An English dad says his over-reacton to his newborn’s crying saved her life before a desperate hospital dash a year ago.

The Mirror reports Stu Bonsall, 45, an engineer from Burnley, Lancashire, wasted no time when his wife told him four-week-old Megan had been crying strangely for several hours.

“But I sensed something was different,” he said.

“I wanted a doctor to check her over. I would rather look an idiot and know my daughter is okay, he told The Mirror

They rushed to Burnley General Hospital where doctors said she was in serious trouble, was being put into an induced coma and rushed to the children’s hospital at Manchester.

Megan had life-threatening sepsis.

The family followed the ambulance by car to Manchester, fearing Megan would die en route. Medics had told them not to stop driving no matter what.

Pumped full of drugs and appearing to almost double in size as a result, Stu said he and Tracy were shocked by the treatment.

But 11 months later, the parents of the happy and healthy one-year-old are happy they put aside their fears they were over-reacting to a crying baby.

“I’d tell all parents to go to the doctor if they are worried,” he said. “I could so easily have done nothing – fearing I’d be told I was over-reacting,” Stu said.
