Restaurant limits adults dining with children to just one alcoholic drink

A New York hotel has introduced a policy that limits parents eating with their children to just one drink.

Melisa Gravelle, general manager at Peddlers Bar & Bistro in Clifton, said the controversial limit was brought in to keep families safe on the road.

“We love children... everybody loves children and children don’t have a voice," Ms Gravelle told WTEN News.

“I could never live with myself knowing that I killed somebody driving.

"I could never do that so and it’s a choice that you can avoid.”

Customers will find the seven word message right next to the martini section - “One drink policy while dining with children”.

As expected, Ms Gravelle said the policy has received mixed reactions, saying some customers have let fly at the wait staff when they are cut off at just one drink.

“They do get berated at the tables and some come back very, very upset,” she added.

“The managers go to the table and they explain, we’re not picking on parents, it’s just something that we feel in our hearts is something that we can do in order to help.”

With the safety of children the catalyst for the policy, Ms Gravelle said it is a risk the popular New York venue is willing to take.

Those who don't adhere to the policy are asked to leave the restaurant.
