Five injured as man goes on chainsaw rampage in Switzerland

A chainsaw-wielding man has gone on a rampage in Schaffhausen, a Swiss town on the German border, injuring five people.

Armed police gathered in the Muller-Beck area of the town to launch a manhunt for the attacker.

Police say the man they are looking for is 6ft 2ins tall, unkempt and balding.

The town has been completely sealed off after the man went on the attack, with two of his five victims in serious condition.

Homes and shops in the area were cordoned off and residents told to stay inside.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a man with blood streaming down his face being assisted by police and paramedics, while another was stretchered out of a bookstore.

Schaffhausen is a city north of Zurich, with a population of about 36,000.

Police refused to elaborate further as the manhunt was ongoing but said they believe the incident is not terrorism-related.
