Mystery, fear as woman heard crying into letter boxes in UK town

A woman who has been heard shouting through people’s letterboxes in the middle of the night has promoted concern and confusion in a UK town.

Residents in Kirkby, a few kilometres north of Liverpool, suspect the bizarre wailing is part of a plot to burgle people’s homes, according to The Independent.

Many fear if they answer the door, someone will break in and rob them.

Bec Edmunds, a mother-of-one, told the Liverpool Echo she “no longer feels safe” in her own home and fears for her child.

“Someone was knocking at my door but I ignored it. I woke up and my back gate was open,” Ms Edmunds said.

“The old lady living over the road said the same thing happened, but a lady was crying at hers saying she had no money.

“This street is normally quiet and we have really good neighbours who stick together but I don’t feel safe anymore.”

Another resident claimed the woman yelled through her letterbox for more than an hour.

Reports suggest the shouting has happened between 2am and 5am and involved a woman asking to come in.

She also says she has “nowhere to go”.

Merseyside Police confirmed they had received a call about the woman knocking on a resident’s front door “for over an hour”.
