'Haunted doll' put up for sale after owner says it creeps around at night

A mother is desperately trying to sell a "haunted doll" that she claims has set off the smoke alarms, covered her husband in scratches and has the ability to move around on its own.

Debbie Merrick, 50, took to website Ebay in the hope someone will take the doll off her hands as "it's fair to say we dont want it in our house anymore".

In the ad, Merrick describes the doll as "pretty" but "creepy".

"This is a pretty doll in a wedding outfit but very creepy, just something about it," she wrote.

Merrick says she bought three of the dolls from a second hand shop as she thought "they were pretty" but she no longer wants them.

Her new dislike for the doll is not putting others off with a bid as high as £806 received for dolls that cost Merrick £5 each.

She told The Sun weird incidents started happening just one week after she bought the dolls.

"The smoke alarms keep going off, and one night I heard the floorboards creaking and thought it might have been my daughter Holly up, but when I checked on her she was asleep," she said.

"Then one morning my husband said to me, 'I've got scratches all over my legs'.

"It definitely hadn't happened before. They looked a bit like cat scratches and were sore. My husband is a complete non-believer. He's still trying to come up with an explanation.

"The scratches do look like they've been done by something small, like little doll hand scratches."

Merrick said she has also had a nightmare about a doll dragging itself along the floor towards her.

She claims the spirit of the doll is moving through the house, setting of the smoke alarms after causing sudden changes in temperature.

Her friend is a medium and immediately freaked out, warning Merrick that the doll "had something in it".

"When I brought the dolls through for my friend to take a look she said, 'get it out, it's got something in it'," Merrick said.

"She refused to sleep in the same house as it, she was freaking out about it. I put it in the shed in a box, and placed things on top of it.

"Then the other day I had to go into the shed to get something, and when I looked in the box the necklace on the doll was completely off and the doll was in a different position, I'm sure."

Merrick said she wants to be rid of the doll is actually quite scared of it.

"I didn't want to touch it and when I had to touch it I felt sick," she said.

Claiming to have been visited by a ghost when she was five years old, Merrick felt as though she had been bewitched in this instance as she doesn't understand what possessed her to purchase the dolls.

"It was a bit strange, but at the time I didn't think much about it. Even that's unusual," she said.
