WATCH: Cyclist and bike sent flying after failing to stop at red light

A cyclist has been charged with running a red light after shocking footage shows him being struck and flying off his bike at an intersection.

Dashcam video from a nearby vehicle captures the moment the rider, pedaled across traffic on the Canadian road, at Ottawa, before being knocked from his bike.

Miraculously the 30-year-old, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was not physically injured as he skid across the car’s bonnet, while his bike flung metres into the air.

The collision was was believed to have happened just after midday on Saturday.

The car's windshield was badly damaged and the bonnet became dented when it collided with the cyclist, identified as Alexandre Remi Baril-Picard.

Baril-Picard was charged with failing to stop at a red light and fined $325.

Motorist Edward Law told CTV News Ottawa he was traumatised over the incident.

"I saw the cyclist just went right over the hood, hit the windshield and bounced off," the driver said.

"I tried my best not to hit him."
