'Unprecedented demand' crashes Foxtel streaming of Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere
The huge rush to watch the latest season of hit TV show Game of Thrones caused Foxtel's new service to crash last night leading to an outcry from fans.
"Unprecedented demand" to watch the premiere of the first episode of Season 7 led to errors in the screenings on Foxtel NOW, the cheapest way to legally watch the latest season in Australia, without the need for a 12-month Foxtel contract.
The streaming service allows users to sign up to a "pop pack" service, which costs $15 and allows users to stream every episode at 11am with an encore playing at 8:30pm.
But technical issues with Monday night's stream, which resulted an error message going up on the screen and the show failing to stream, had furious customers taking to social media to vent their fury.
"Excellent. Great work Foxtel. I'll be demanding a refund tomorrow," one user wrote on Twitter.
"All excited to watch @GameOfThrones S7 and now @Foxtel Go/Play/Now (whatever it's called these days) not working!" another wrote.
Foxtel released a statement on Monday night saying: "We are devastated that due to unprecedented demand, we are experiencing problems with our on line services this evening".
"Obviously, this comes at a time when so many of our customers are wanting to watch the first episode of Season 7 of Game of Thrones.
"We can assure you that we are doing everything we can to resolve these problems."
The company said customers will be able to watch Game of Thrones using their On Demand feature as soon as the issue was fixed.
