'This is what makes America great': Photo of white woman with Muslim family goes viral

While America took the weekend to celebrate July fourth, one Twitter user chose to share a candid moment between two families during a time many would be fearing hate.

Actress Rachel MacKnight posted the photo on her Twitter page, captioned:"What makes America great".

The photo shows a smiling white woman holding her baby as a Muslim family leans in and grins back at the child and mother on a New York City train.

"Thiiiiiis is what makes America great. Happy 4th of July, y'all', the caption on the photo reads along with two heart emojis.

Many Twitter users have commented on the photo, remarking on its display of diversity and community love, sending it viral.

The photo has been shared more than 18,000 times and liked more than 69,000 times on Twitter.

A lot of social media users were quick to agree with MacKnight's take on the moment.

Many read into it as a political message after she used the phrase famously coined by President Trump during the 2016 presidential election - "make America great again".

Since the election of President Donald Trump, there have been many images captured on the New York City subway that have gained nationwide attention for highlighting the diversity - and divisions - in the country.

Others shared their own, similar interactions, including one white girl taking a photo for a Muslim family.
