‘Evil and depraved’: Could this ex-cabbie be Britain’s worst serial killer?

Ex-taxi driver and convicted killer Christopher Halliwell may have murdered dozens more women, possibly making him one of Britain’s worst serial killers.

These are the salacious claims made in a book “Catching A Serial Killer” written by former Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher.

The former detective was involved in the investigation when Sian O’Callaghan first went missing in 2011.

Halliwell, 53, is currently serving life for killing Sian O’Callaghan, 22, and Becky Godden, 20.

According to the author a secret trophy store of around 60 items of women’s clothing suggests potentially dozens more victims may have been raped or killed by Halliwell reports The Swindon Advertiser.

Fulcher writes that the discovery of clothing and other personal items around a Ramsbury pond in 2014, including boots belonging to Sian O’Callaghan and Becky Godden-Edwards’ cardigan, points to a murderer hoarding ‘trophies’ from other unnamed victims.

“If my suspicions are right, if the evidence in the trophy store suggests a truth that still lies hidden, then Halliwell had a prolific propensity to murder – perhaps as often and once or twice a year,” Fulcher writes in the book reports The Swindon Advertiser.

The explosive book also claims that Halliwell was an “obsessive” client of Sally Ann John.

John was a prostitute in the area and has not been seen since September 8, 1995.

According to reports she lived on the same street as Halliwell.

Halliwell, abducted office administrator O'Callaghan as she walked home following a night out in Swindon and dumped her body in Uffington, Oxfordshire.

He then confessed to killing Becky Godden, a prostitute he had picked up from Swindon, had sex with and strangled in January 2003.

At the time of his conviction Fulcher, who was led to the victims' bodies by Halliwell, describes him as an "evil and depraved violator of women".

Fulcher also goes on in the book to attack current investigators writing, “Whoever the six – or 60 – other victims are, they are real people with mothers, fathers, siblings and friends.

“People’s lives have been wrecked, for the rest of time, by whatever has happened to their relative.

“A police investigation that fails to scrutinise every possible clue is one that fails families. It fails victims.”

The father of three is currently serving life.
