Mother pleads guilty after mid-labour meth injection demands

A woman in New Hampshire has been sentenced to one year in jail after demanding narcotics while she was in labour.

Felicia Farruggia, 29, of Concord New Hampshire, allegedly begged for a heroin shot as she was giving birth.

Her friend, Rhianna Frenette, 39, complied - but gave her an injection with a dirty syringe that turned out to be methamphetamine.

She gave birth to a baby boy on the way to an ambulance that was parked in the driveway.

Farruggia was sentenced to a year in jail for reckless conduct but may be released if she agrees to complete a drug treatment program.

Speaking in court, Farruggia said she wanted to "become a better person".

"I have no excuse for the sad and horrific events that led up to the birth of my son on September 15, 2016," she said.

"I am, however, fortunate to be standing here today before you, not only alive and well, but a different person.

"Most importantly, for the life of my child.

"Addiction is a horrible disease, one that I will spend the rest of my life fighting."

The case against the woman who gave her the drug is ongoing.
