Two Bali escapees caught 1000kms from Kerobokan, but Aussie still on the run

Merely four days after their brazen escape two of the four prisoners who fled from Bali’s Kerobokan prison have been recaptured in East Timor.

However there is still no sign of missing Australian, Shaun Davidson, who escaped with the men earlier this week.

The recaptured pair Sayed Muhammad Said of India and Dimitar Nikolov Iliev of Bulgaria were located more than a thousand kilometres away in Dili, Kerobokan's governor confirmed .

Said, was reported to be serving a 14-year sentence for drug smuggling charges and Ilev seven years for fraud.

Earlier in the week authorities said the four men who broke out of the notorious prison appeared to have made a clean getaway after suspicions were raised they may be found trapped in their escape tunnel.

Head of Badung District Police Mikael Hutabarat says police have examined the tunnel and established it was the only way out.

"We have gone through the tunnel ... and it's been confirmed, no one got stuck inside," he told AAP at the time.

"So far, we haven't found any other way of escaping."

Perth man Shaun Davidson, 33, was among the group that is believed to have squeezed through the narrow hole travelling underneath the notorious prison to freedom.

Badung District Police Chief Yudith Satriya Hananta said the tunnel is 15 metres long and 50cm by 75cm wide, making it possible for an average sized man to become stuck.

Davidson, who was sentenced for immigration offences last year after using another man's passport, had just two months and 15 days left to serve.

He was going to be deported to Australia where he is facing a number of drug charges in Perth.
