'By God's grace': Muslim leader hailed a hero for protecting terror suspect from angry mob
A Muslim leader is being hailed a hero for reportedly standing between a terror suspect and an angry mob outside a London mosque.
Imam Mohammed Mahmoud reportedly stepped in after it’s alleged Welshman Darren Osborne, 47, mowed down a crowd of people outside the Finsbury Park Mosque early Monday morning.
Witnesses said the suspected leapt from the vehicle and shouted: “I’m going to kill all Muslims – I did my bit".
Mr Mahmoud told reporters “by God’s grace”, he and a group of men, managed to protected Osborne after the alleged attack, which killed one person and left another 11 injured.
“We stopped all forms of attack and abuse towards him that were coming from every angle,” he said.
“And by coincidence while the people who were tending to the injured were calling the emergency services a police van passed by.”
He said he flagged the police van down, told officers the situation and warned them: “if you don’t take him God forbid he might be seriously hurt".
Mahmoud said he and a “group of mature brothers” had to push people away from Osborne until he was safely taken into custody.
He also praised the men who helped him for being “calm and collected” and for “extinguishing flames of anger.”

British Prime Minister Theresa May said the incident was a sickening, terrorist attack on Muslims.
"This was an attack on Muslims near their place of worship," said May who later visited the mosque.
The mosques’ worshippers, mainly from North and West Africa, had just left prayers during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
