Shaun Edward Davidson, 33, has escaped from Kerobokan Prison with three others.

It follows his arrest for using a fake passport.

Davidson is believed to have travelled to Indonesia in January 2015, the same day he was due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court on drug offences, including possessing a prohibited drug with the intent to sell or supply.

He was serving a 12-month sentence after being convicted in September last year of using fraudulent documents and fined $10,000.

Reuters reports the head of the prison Tony Nainggolan said the men dug their way out through a tunnel only 40cm in diameter.

"The tunnel is about 12 metres long and we suspect it took more than a week to build," Nainggolan said, adding that police had launched a search and believed the men were still in Bali and not far from the prison.
