'It's definitely happening': Sunrise reveal Top Gun 2 cleared for take off
In an exclusive interview with Channel 7’s Sunrise, Tom Cruise has revealed the news Top Gun fans have been waiting more than 20 years for – Maverick is back!
After years of speculation the Hollywood megastar confirmed to Sunrise co-hosts David Koch and Sam Armytage that Top Gun 2 had been given the all-clear for take off.
As his appearance at “Brekky Central” came to a close, Sam couldn’t help but slip in one last question.
“Top Gun 2, please say it’s true,” Sam asked the Academy Award nominee.
“It’s true… I’m going to start filming it in the next year.”
"It is definitely happening."
After a moment of stunned silence, the pair pushed Cruise for more information as he lauded that trademark smile.
Production of the film is set to kick off in 2018, with 54-year-old Tom reprising his role as US Navy pilot Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, in a cinematic adaptation of the "world we live in today".
While Cruise is currently in Australia promoting his remake of The Mummy with Russell Crowe, it was his revelation on Sunrise that sent Twitter into overdrive.
