Fiancé of Cassie Sainsbury arrives in LA as story builds against imprisoned Australian

The fiancé of Cassandra Sainsbury has touched down in Los Angeles as he beats a hasty retreat from Colombia after a weekend of bombshell allegations.

Scott Broadbridge has fled Colombia amid claims his life could be in danger and that he has become a person of interest in the cocaine smuggling investigation which could see Ms Sainsbury locked up for decades in South America.

Speaking to 7 News in Los Angeles en route out of Colombia, Mr Broadbridge remained supportive of his imprisoned fiancee.

"She's an amazing person," he said.

He had earlier told Sunday Night he did not believe his 22-year-old wife-to-be was guilty of the cocaine smuggling charges that have landed her in a Bogota prison.

"I don't know if the business she worked for set her up from Colombia. But, you know, I believe, she was, you know, I guess, set up as a drug mule without her knowledge," Mr Broadbridge said.

His comments come after media reports suggested Ms Sainsbury had worked in Sydney as a fly-in-fly-out prostitute. Mr Broadbridge told Sunday Night he believed she had been travelling for work for her uncle's commercial cleaning company.

Her uncle, Neil Sainsbury said he had never owned such a business, or any business.

It was also revealed at the weekend that Ms Sainsbury was turning her back on her original alibi, in which she said she had unknowingly packed the 5.8kg of cocaine in her luggage believing she had purchased 18 sets of cut price headphones.

Legal documents tendered to a Sydney court now reveal a new version of events in which Ms Sainsbury claims she was coerced into carrying the drugs amid threats to her life and her family.
