Tigerair sells flights for just $1 - but is there a catch?

Tigerair is offering passengers to fly the return leg of Australian domestic flights for just $1.

Travellers who purchase flights to destinations as far as Perth, Cairns and Darwin can return for $1 for a limited time.

There are a total of 1,600 seats available for the Brisbane to Cairns route, 400 for the Cairns to Melbourne route and 500 for Cairns to Sydney, so you need to be quick.

For the Cairns to Melbourne route a one-way ticket costs $135 with a $1 return and for the Cairns to Sydney route it will cost one-way $139 and $1 return.

As part of the sale, 14,000 bargain fares for travel between mid-July and mid-September 2017 are available from noon Wednesday until noon Saturday, May 13 or until sold out.

Tigerair communications chief Vanessa Regan said the cheap fares were expected to be snapped up quickly, "so we urge bargain seekers to jump online as soon as possible to avoid disappointment".

Routes offered in the $1 sale: Adelaide-Brisbane; Adelaide-Melbourne; Adelaide-Sydney; Brisbane-Cairns; Brisbane-Darwin; Brisbane-Melbourne; Brisbane-Sydney; Brisbane-Whitsundays; Brisbane-Perth; Canberra-Melbourne; Coffs Harbour-Melbourne; Coffs Harbour-Sydney; Cairns-Melbourne; Cairns-Sydney; Hobart-Melbourne; Melbourne-Gold Coast; Melbourne-Perth; Melbourne-Sydney; Melbourne-Townsville; Gold Coast-Sydney; Perth-Sydney; and Whitsundays-Sydney.
