'I will marry her': Emotional fiancé of accused drug mule Cassie Sainsbury confirms his support

The fiancé of the Australian woman sitting in a Colombian prison cell on cocaine smuggling charges has insisted she is innocent after calling a press conference in Adelaide.

Scott Broadbridge read a short statement to the media on Friday morning, accompanied by his lawyer Steven Kenny.

"I would just like to say I have no doubt that Cass is innocent of these charges and I will support her no matter how long this takes," Mr Broadbridge said.

"Cass and I are engaged to be married and I intend to marry her."

"Cass is the light of my life, I know that she is not involved in the drug trade and know that she was not deliberately taking drugs or carrying drugs anywhere."

Mr Broadbridge said he had been in daily contact with his fiancé, who he said was struggling to come to terms with conditions in the Bogota prison in which she is being held.

"It is extremely stressful for her but we are able to talk every day, and that is a great comfort to both of us," he said.

"She is concerned about the conditions of the jail which are not ideal, and it is very difficult for her not knowing anyone in the country."

Mr Broadbridge said he hoped to travel to Colombia soon.

He asked the media to “stop harassing” he and his grandmother, but declined to take questions, letting his lawyer Steven Kenny to field queries on his behalf.

Mr Kenny said he could not provide information about Ms Sainsbury's movements or her travel arrangements.
