Couple die in fiery crash night after buying car for $130k

A man and woman have died after crashing a $130,000 car that they had just bought.

The Holden HSV Commodore that the couple, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, were in is now no more than a charred frame, burned almost beyond recognition.

The car had driven through an intersection and then slammed into an embankment, before it burst into flames.

The duo had only bought the car the day before.

It was so badly burnt, it was hours before police managed to work out who the victims were and they're not even sure who was driving.

"I felt sick when I knew we were the last ones to speak to him with his partner as well," a friend of the couple, who did not wish to be named, told 7 News.

Seven News has been told the couple had spent the day at the Bindoon Burnouts before they arrived in Gingin, just north of Perth.

Locals said they had pulled into the pub looking for a room to stay for the night.

"He said he'd get her sorted and then come up for a drink with us later," the friend said.

After checking into their room witnesses say the couple hung around for less than ten minutes before they took off what they can't work out is why.

"He was driving absolutely crazy - just foot to the floor and make as much noise as possible," the friend said.

Another witness to the incident, Allen Dean said he heard several sirens.

"I just heard the sirens scream past probably about ten minutes afterwards," Mr Dean said.
