Pro-shark spotter killed weeks after mate taken in similar spot

A trained shark spotter has been killed by one just two months after his best friend died in similar circumstances.

The Sun reports Adrien Dubosc, 28, was bitten on the leg in shark-infested waters off Pointe au Sel, Reunion on Saturday, home to an extreme concentration of shark attacks.

Dubosc died in front of horrified family members as he was given CPR on the shore by rescuers desperate to save him.

The island in the Indian Ocean is one of 115 in the Seychelles archipelago off the coast of East Africa.

It is also home to nine fatal shark attacks in the past six years.

Dubosc’s death also comes weeks after his best friend Alexandre Naussac, 26, died on a nearby beach on the island.

Police said the experienced bodyboarder was with two friends when a shark attacked his right thigh and groin area.

“The victim was pulled out of the water, and emergency workers arrived very quickly,” a police spokesman said.

“Despite cardiac massage, he died within half an hour of the attack.”

The island has had more than 15 per cent of all the world’s fatal shark attacks over the past five years.
