Toddler survives being run over by two cars

The terrifying moment a toddler in China darted out onto a road before being run over by two cars has been captured on surveillance footage.

Despite the horrific incident, which reportedly took place on Monday in Xichang City, the two-year-old child survived and miraculously sustained only minor bruises, American ABC News reports.

In the footage the young girl is seen dashing out onto the street and running in between two cars stopped at a crossing, in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

However when the girl continues to cross onto the other side of the street she is struck by a car travelling in the other direction, which appears to be unable to see her.

Another car then travels over the little girl as she seems to remain on the ground.

After the cars have passed the child raises her head but stays in the same spot as two women rush to her.

One of the woman has reportedly been identified as her grandmother.

A police officer with Xichang Public Security Bureau, Guo Wei, said:"The surveillance video footage on site and our preliminary investigation show that when the toddler was running across the road, she was in the blind zone of the first car and the driver didn't see her.

"And the following car was moving too closely behind the first one and the driver failed to see the toddler [too]. So both cars ran over her."

Medical treatment was sought immediately after incident, and it has been reported that the child was released the next day after only receiving minor bruises on her head.

CCTV reports that there was a further investigation on site and the drivers involved were stopped.
