Man to face court after allegedly trying pull boy into toilet cubicle to sexually assault him

A man has been charged over allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 12-year-old boy in a public toilet at a southwestern Sydney shopping centre.

Police allege the man grabbed the boy by the waist and pulled him into a toilet cubicle about 8.15pm on Saturday when he went into the toilets at a shopping centre complex on the Hume Highway, Bass Hill.

The boy told police he noticed the man in a cubicle with the door open as soon as he walked in.

Officers were told that after he grabbed the child, the man allegedly hit him on the head and attempted to pull him closer.

At this time two men entered the toilet block and startled the man and the 12-year-old was able to break free and run out.

On Sunday the man handed himself in to Bankstown police station where he was arrested and charged with intent to have sexual intercourse with children between 10 to 16 years.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Monday.
