Teens arrested after fatal servo stabbing on 'horrific' crime spree

Two teenage boys have been arrested over a fatal service station stabbing on a night of rampage in Queanbeyan that led to a cross-border police chase.

Homicide police are investigating an incident in which the service station attendant allegedly lost his life in an altercation with the two boys at about 11.45pm on Thursday night.

Police said the boys fled the scene, taking the cash register and a number of stolen items.

They are also believed to be involved with a number of earlier violent incidents in the Queanbeyan area, including an aggravated break and enter in which a man was bashed with a tyre iron and the bashing of another man with a beer bottle in a park, and a possible attempted robbery in the ACT, police said.

An intensive search for two boys, aged 15 and 16, was undertaken across the NSW-ACT border.

At 6.20am on Friday police received a report of another stabbing at Stornaway Road in Queanbeyan where a man was stabbed to the abdomen.

Police believe the same two boys were responsible and 15 minutes later they spotted a silver Ford sedan which they pursued from NSW into ACT and shortly after arrested the pair without further incident.

The teens are being held in an ACT watch house with NSW Police requesting their extradition.

Police would not say if the boys would be charged with murder but homicide detectives were investigating the incident. The second stabbing victim in Queanbeyan is in Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 29-year-old service station worker who locals described as friendly suffered several stab wounds and was found by a fellow employee upon their arrival at work.

The workmate gave first aid, but the victim died at the scene soon after.

There was a significant amount of damage done to the service station, police said, after the two teens, aged 15 and 16, were locked inside the shop and had to smash their way out.

The area has been combed by forensic police and SES volunteers for evidence.
