'She was a great mother': Grieving father of boy found dead inside Sydney unit says ex was 'loving, caring'

The grieving father of a little boy found dead inside a Sydney apartment, says he cannot fathom what his ex-partner was thinking.

Matt Davis was confronted by a truly awful scene, when he discovered the bodies of his son, Seth and his ex-partner, Stacey Docherty at Hillsdale on Monday.

Mr Davis also found a message written in blood on the wall.

The horrific scene did not match the photos of Ms Docherty, which showed a mother doting on her son.

The photos provided no wider context of a woman so out of control, to the point where she would kill her little boy and take her own life.

Neighbour Brian Welch described the mother as a “really nice girl … until she had a drink”.

"Real estate said she was going to be thrown out at 12.30 that day, yesterday,” he said.

It’s claimed Ms Docherty was “destructive” and “abusive” at times.

Mr Davis spoke of the last Christmas they had shared together as a family.

Matt Davis said Stacey was a great mother to Seth and he was unable to fathom what she was thinking.

“I’m very, very shattered. Gonna miss him forever,” Mr Davis told 7 News.

“I'll miss Stacey, besides our differences in the past, she was a loving and caring person."

Investigators remained at the apartment block on Tuesday.

Neighbour Bidhan Mondal said he was struggling to sleep following the news of the deaths.

“I couldn't sleep all night because the boy was so beautiful. He was like a little angel," he said.

It’s claimed Ms Docherty was seen crying hysterically in a nearby park on Sunday, after a suspected relationship breakdown with another man.

Silvi Vecerina said the mother was “very distraught” and believed she was about to be evicted from the unit.

While police are confident the crime was a murder-suicide, Mr Davis has not been ruled out as a suspect.

Seven News understands Ms Docherty may have killed her child, sent Mr Davis a message telling him to come over and then killed herself.

"I can't begin to fathom what made her take the decision she did," Mr Davis said.
