Rail smash horror: High-speed train annihilates truck at crossing

A train hurtling along at full tilt in Chile ripped through a truck at a crossing, killing two people in a horrific accident.

Surveillance camera footage from the incident shows the truck cautiously moving over a railway crossing in the Chilean town of Requinoa, in the central O'Higgins region.

The train, which was not carrying passengers at the time, then rushes into view and smashes the truck into several pieces.

The train was heading from Concepcion to Santiago for repairs, local media reported.

Local media also stated that the truck driver, Rene Eduardo Paz Ericez, died from sustained injuries hours later at Rancagua Hospital.

The train driver’s assistant, identified as Jaime Aliaga, was also killed, reports The Sun. The train driver, Patricio Salinas, was severely injured.

The railway company released a statement and promised to investigate the cause of the accident.

It said: “The company deeply regrets the loss of one of our workers and sends their condolences to their family, who will be given all the necessary support.

“The causes of the accident will be investigated, according to the established safety protocols.”
