Ship happens: Lack of cruise control sends luxury liner hurtling towards mansion
Nothing ruins the ocean view from your mansion quite like seeing a 1,041-foot cruise liner hurtling towards you.
That was the reality for Bill and Yasmine Todhunter last week when the intimidating sight of a gigantic Equinox cruise ship sent them into a panic.
Sitting in their multi-million dollar Port Everglades home in Florida, Yasmine filmed as Bill frantically waved his arms with the 122,000-ton ship on a collision course with their luxury pad.
The video also shows the huge ship frantically trying to swing around before disaster strikes.
"I looked up and all I could see was the bow of the vessel, and it was towering over the house," Bill Todhunter told WPLG in Florida.
"We've been here for six years. We've never seen anything like that. We've never seen anything that close."
Mr Todhunter told WPLG this ship got to within 100 feet of his property.
Celebrity Cruises, the company that owns the Equinox cruise ship, released a statement on the incident, and explained: "As Equinox departed on Friday, March 3, she was in her assigned channel at all times under the guidance of specialized (sic) local port pilots.
“The ship operated safely and did not put guests or crew at risk. We can also confirm the ship did not touch bottom," it said.
Todhunter told WPLG that he did not believe the company, and said that by his estimate the ship rested at the bottom of the water.
