Teens hand themselves in after all train seats pulled from carriage and piled up

Two teenagers will face court next month after they allegedly damaged seats on a train during a trip in the Blue Mountains earlier this month.

Commuter Steve Mateer had boarded the intercity train in Katoomba on February 14 and found the seats on the top floor of one carriage to be missing.

"I went 'oh what? What? What is all this about?" Mr Mateer said.

"I looked at the guy behind me, who walked in the door behind me, and he was equally as shocked as I was."

The seats were allegedly removed from the train between Lithgow and Katoomba and piled up at the end of a carriage, blocking an exit.

Staff at Katoomba were then forced to close the carriage as the train continued towards Sydney.

Police released images of men wanted in relation to the train vandalism, and on February 21 two 19-year-olds handed themselves in to police in Lithgow.

The duo were arrested and released pending further inquiries.

On Tuesday, NSW Police confirmed the duo have since been charged.

"After further investigation, about 9.30am on Tuesday, both men attended Lithgow Police Station where they were served for malicious damage," a police spokesperson said.

The duo will appear in Lithgow Local Court on April 13.
