Boyfriend begged his girlfriend not to drive before fatal crash

Jordan Whittle and Sarah Mitchell had been celebrating at his 21st birthday party hours before the car she was driving smashed into a power pole north of Brisbane.

Friends say Mr Whittle begged his girlfriend not to get behind the wheel in the early hours of Saturday morning, after a night out drinking.

Both Sarah, 21, and Jordan, 20, were killed when their car crashed on Deception Bay’s Bayview Road about 3.30am.

It was a split second decision that ended in tragedy just as fast.

Mr Whittle was due to turn 21 this week.

The pair were described by friends as “happy, loving people”.

“She was just living her life to the fullest,” Hayleigh Lamb told 7 News.

Ms Lamb, who coincidentally was an old friend of the couple, was one of the first on the scene of the tragedy.

Seven News understands the couple were heard arguing on Saturday morning, before the fatal crash.

Friends said the pair had been drinking at Mr Whittle’s birthday party from about 7.30pm Friday and they were begged by friends not to leave.

They also said Mr Whittle did not want his girlfriend to drive.

The car hit the power pole with such force, the engine was thrown metres from the crash scene.

Ms Mitchell’s sister Emma Lander shared a plea on social media after the crash, urging others to take care on the roads.

“After losing my sister Sarah this morning to a terrible car accident. Please, please, please don't ever get behind the wheel thinking you are immortal,” she wrote.

“We are so fragile, don't take a second for granted.

“When you are behind the wheel, make sure you do everything you can to get yourself home safe, your passengers home safe, and other road users home safe.”

Friends and family have left flowers and tributes at the scene of the crash.

Ms Mitchell’s dad left a portrait of a wolf against the pole which read: "May the wolf look after you and protect you on your journey".

"You will be sadly missed, until we meet again. Heaps of love and cuddles,” he wrote, according to The Courier Mail.

Queensland Police will continue to investigate the crash.
