Sunbathers watch men with 'psychotic' weapons bash man

The man savagely beaten by several armed men at Bondi beach was allegedly assaulted over his relationship with a woman.

It’s alleged victim Michael Nicholas had been dating a woman with bikie connections, with the relationship reportedly to blame for a previous violent incident where Nicolas was threatened with knuckledusters at a restaurant.

On Thursday, the matter came to a head with Nicholas assaulted by men armed with iron bars and modified baseball bats with nails at the end.

The vicious brawl happened just metres from sunbathers and shocked onlookers at the popular ‘Grassy Knoll’ just after 1pm.

“I could see a guy being beaten with some sort of object … I couldn’t see what object, but he was being beaten and there was screaming and shouting and chaos,” witness Chris O’Neill said.

“He looked pretty messed up, above his eye was in a pretty bad state.”

Witnesses described the weapons used in the attack as “psychotic”, with innocent bystanders caught up in the fight.

“One guy came past me and another guy shoved me and the pram,” another witness said.

The attackers allegedly fled towards the Military Road shops and drove away in a white Mercedes-Benz.
