Mum survives being crushed by school bus while crossing street

WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: A New York woman is lucky to be alive after being hit then dragged under a wheel of a school bus.

Confronting CCTV footage from a nearby building showed the mother of three walking half way across a Brooklyn road when a yellow school bus turned the corner in her path.

She can be seen racing ahead in attempt to dodge the vehicle, but failed to notice a side mirror, which struck her and led to her collapse.

The woman was then dragged along the street and pinned underneath a wheel before the driver had a chance to hit the brakes.

The female driver exited the bus, grasping her mouth in shock.

The victim, Ayse Ayaz an immigrant from Turkey, was reportedly taken to the Kings County Hospital with four broken ribs, broken collarbone, broken leg and a swollen, bleeding eye.

She has remained in hospital since Friday’s collision and it's claimed she will not be able to walk for at least three months, the New York Daily News reported.

“I saw something coming fast, I tried to cross, but I had no chance at all,” a tearful Ms Ayaz told the Daily News on Wednesday.

She remembered feeling “squished” and heard her bones breaking as she was struck.

When she came to, hours later in hospital, Ms Ayaz said she couldn’t believe she was still alive.

“I was shocked… I am very lucky. I thought I was never going to see my family again,” she told local media.

There were no passengers on board the bus at the time of impact.

The driver, Shelly Rudolph, 51, of Manhattan, reportedly remained on scene until emergency services arrived. She received a summons for failure to yield.
