WATCH: Heartwarming moment man uses breath to free sparrow frozen to fence

A kind-hearted man has rescued a sparrow he found frozen to a fence.

Nelson Miller of Caldwell, Idaho, found the small bird with its feet frozen to metal as he fed his horses on New Year’s Day.

“I noticed a solitary sparrow perched upon the steel fence near the water tank,” he wrote in a post on LiveLeak.

“The tank is heated to keep it from freezing.”

Unfortunately the bird had gotten its feet wet. As it tried to make an exit, it found itself frozen to the fence in sub-zero temperatures.

Mr Miller attempted to warm the feet of the terrified bird, by pressing his palm against the bird’s feet.

He also restrained the bird’s flapping wings.

He then tried to free the bird by using the warmth of his breath.

“Gentle sideways motion with my thumb brought freedom for the frightened bird and a smile of satisfaction to my face,” he wrote.

As the bird flew away, Mr Miller was chuffed he was able to help.

“A delightful way to start a new year.”
