Axe attack victim says dreadlocks saved her life
A woman's dreadlocks may have saved her life when she was attacked by a stranger wielding an axe in Sydney's Inner West.
She was one of three people caught up in the random alleged assault at a service station in Enmore early on Saturday morning.
One man was filmed lying in a pool of blood after he had just been struck in the face with an axe.
He was one of three people allegedly attacked by a woman, a stranger.
Officers were called to a service station at Enmore around 2:30am Saturday morning and what they were confronted with was shocking.
Two people bleeding heavily with serious wounds.
Sharon Hacker was on a late night milk run, and walked into a scene she described as something out of a horror film.
"They watched the footage and said stop moving and put me in a neck brace and said she tried to take your head off and said 'If you didn't have that hair you wouldn't have a head right now,'" she told 7 News.
"She came in with full force and swung and hit the man across the face and then turned immediately around too me again with both hands with the axe into the back of my head," she told 7 News.
Remarkably, Ms Hacker managed to walk herself out of hospital earlier today, she says while her physical injuries will heal in time, mentally she may never recover from the attack.
"It is terrifying because you just don't realise that these things can happen anywhere at any time,” she told 7 News.
Nathan Wood was also in the wrong place at the wrong time, when he witnessed the frenzy and at one stage even chased the offender up the street.
"She went after the person behind me and swung her axe at him, a dude in a big coat, she swung and missed got his coat, put a big hole in it," he told 7 News.
Police are expected to charge the alleged offender tonight.
