Real Housewives of ISIS skit slammed as 'insensitive'
A BBC sketch called Real Housewives of ISIS has been slammed on social media, with many claiming the joke goes too far.
The clip, featuring four women Afsana, Mel, Zaynab and Hadiya, shows the group modelling suicide vests, joking about beheadings and brushing off mistreatment of women.
“It’s only three days until the beheading, and I’ve got no idea what I’m gonna wear,” the parody says.
“Hashtag death to the west,” the women also joke.
The skit features four Western women who have travelled to Syria to become ‘jihadi brides’.
The parody of the Real Housewives series, which feature women from a number of countries including Australia, the US and UK, has been labeled “insensitive”.
“This is absolutely disgusting BBC. Mocking what happens to the poor innocent people these sick scumbags blow up, I’m ashamed,” one person commented.
“Making fun of vulnerable girls who’ve been groomed and are being raped by terrorists. To everyone finding this funny, you’re sick in the head,” another said.
“The BBC’s Real Housewives of ISIS is awful. People getting butchered, raped, enslaved are entitled to more respect #MoralCompass,” another said.
A preview for a follow up skit mocks one of the women raising concerns about her husband’s 40 virgins, while another women celebrates being kept on an eight-foot long chain.
The skit is part of BBC’s Revolting show, which airs on the publicly-funded BBC2.
It’s not the first time an ISIS skit has been done, with Saturday Night Live labeled “tasteless” for a spoof that aired early last year.
