'Not that bad a criminal': Mum of cop-taunting bikie fugitive lashes out at media

The mother of a suspected Comanchero bikie, who allegedly crashed into a police car before going on the run for months, has lashed out at media in front of an Adelaide court, telling reporters to "rack off".

Raymond Jones’s mother Kathleen was in no mood to talk as she left the courthouse, but stands by her son who she claims is “not that bad of a criminal”.

Jones is accused of using his mother’s Ford Falcon to smash into a police car during a chase earlier this month, and later taunting police on social media after he managed to evade arrest.

Jones had been on the run since October when he failed to show up to the last day of his trial on serious assault charges.

The 30-year-old’s two-month stint on the run came to an end on Saturday when police arrested him at a Smithfield Plains home.

He appeared in court on Monday, shackled and flanked by guards, and made an application for a suppression order to keep his name and image out of the media.

Despite the application being quickly rejected by the magistrate, Jones smiled throughout his court hearing, waving at his family who yelled out that they love him.

The Jones family said the father-of-three has been unfairly targeted by authorities.

Jones was on home detention bail in October when he allegedly cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet and failed to attend court for an assault charge over a stabbing.

He has since been convicted of that offence.

During his time on the run, it’s alleged Jones taunted officers through social media, posting photos outside a police station with the caption “Hey guys, stopping in to sign in. Ha ha ha”.

Jones made no application for bail in court on Monday and will spend Christmas behind bars before his next appearance in court in January.
