Police shut down Sydney nightclub amid drug allegations

In the kind of scene not witnessed in King's Cross for decades, dozens of police marched into a night club and closed it down.

In the middle of the night, one after the other, armed officers from Strike Force Roby marched into the Candy's Apartment nightclub, pushing past patrons waiting outside before serving the owner his own marching orders.

Allegations of drug supply and licence breaches saw the once popular venue handed a 72-hour temporary closure order on one of their busiest weekends.

The raid came as the State Government prepares to relax its controversial lockout laws that have forced many nightclubs in the Cross to close down.

After clearing the venue, police arrested a 21-year-old man they allege was carrying 60 MDMA capsules before searching his Oakhusrt house and charging him with 22 drug offences, including supplying a prohibited substance on an ongoing basis.

The young man was refused bail and will face central local court on Monday.
