‘I love you’: Coldplay fan proposes to girlfriend live on stage during Melbourne concert

One of the biggest bands in the world have played the ultimate matchmaker when an adoring fan took to their stage and proposed to his girlfriend of three years.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin stopped midway through singing “A Sky Full of Stars” and invited the man on stage amid thunderous applause and screams from an excited crowd.

The megafan outshone his favourite band when he made a emotional speech to his "better half" in front of a packed Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

The visibly nervous fiance-to-be held the microphone tight while he proclaimed “for the past three years, thank you for your love," through several tears.

“Thank you for giving me a chance.

“So in the midst of Coldplay, my new best friend Chris, and all the people here in Melbourne I just want to say I love you.

Then he popped the question. “Will you marry me?”

The seemingly pleased and gushing crowd let out a loud “awwww” as the woman burst into tears.

As the love-struck man finished his speech an audience member cried out, “Get on your knee!”

The man then bent down to offer a ring to his now fiancé as streams of confetti fell down around the stadium.

Martin added a touch of humour during the proposal, telling the man not to take too long with the act as “people have to catch trains and s***t".

The joke sent the audience into laughter and applause.

After the proposal Martin was snapped in a photo with the happy couple.

Coldplay are currently touring Australia on their A Head Full of Dreams tour.

55,000 euphoric fans filled Etihad Stadium last night.
