Cop-taunting fugitive arrested at gunpoint after days on the run
Seven News has obtained video of the moment an Adelaide fugitive was arrested on Thursday afternoon with officers closing in, guns drawn.
Conan Taylor had taunted police in social posts during a week-long manhunt, posting photos of country pubs and venues.
Taylor was arrested in Blakeview on Thursday afternoon, after police ordered him to surrender.
“They were crouching in the garden with weapons drawn… yelling ‘Get down on the ground, put your hands behind your back’,” one witness said.
“Then another looped around and they jumped on top of him.”
“They told him to lift his shirt up against his head and put his hands on his head,” another said.
In court on Friday, Taylor’s lawyer said the 36-year-old could live with his girlfriend Caroline Tobin on home detention bail but that was swiftly denied in court.
Unhappy with the media attention, Ms Tobin lashed out at reporters outside court and threatened to assault the camera crew.
“F*** off ***** before I kick your f****** faces in and smash your cameras,” she said.
It's alleged the 36-year-old held a gun one metre from an officer’s stomach during a traffic top at Kadina, an offence he strongly denies.
Taylor’s lawyer Jenny Matthews said if police don’t find the gun they allege Taylor pointed at them by his next court appearance, he has a good chance of getting home detention bail.
In a statement police confirmed the investigation into Taylor is continuing.
