Former conjoined twins share touching moment after separation

The mother of 14-month-old conjoined twins who were separated in a life-threatening operation, has shared a touching video of her boys holding hands.

Jadon and Anias McDonald were born in September 2015, conjoined at the crown of the head and underwent surgery in New York in October.

The brothers have already started rehabilitation, making their recovery the fastest in the history of the procedure.

The twins’ mother, Nicole McDonald, has updated every step of the boys’ progress on her Facebook page and shared a touching video of them earlier this week.

Jadon is recovering faster than his brother, and while Anias isn't far behind he still wears bandages around his head.

The adorable boys were discharged from hospital on Thanksgiving, November 24, giving their parents the ultimate pre-Christmas gift.

“So much to be grateful for...two beautiful, laughing and playing brown-eyed babies progressing in recovery in a way that is unimaginable,” she wrote.

Dr Goodrich from Montefiore Medical Centre Children Hospital said the twins’ surgery was the longest craniopagus surgery since 1952.

The operation lasted more than 16 hours, with another 11 hours taken to reconstruct their small skulls with tissue expanders to make them two separate individuals.
